Many students join volunteer organizations desiring to make a difference. For students wanting to impact others during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been more difficult to find opportunities. Nevertheless, students from across the country have found ways to formulate initiatives virtually, a process of which STEM⋅E is no exception.

Interns Shweta, Isha, Kaashvi, and Kessa, all volunteers on STEM⋅E’s Marketing Team, each expressed their desire to take advantage of the unique opportunities provided by STEM⋅E, while making a difference in the STEM field. Shweta, a member of the TikTok team and volunteer coordinator, mentioned her interest in the variety of roles offered by STEM⋅E. Isha, an ambassador for STEM⋅E, hopes to represent women, who are a minority in the STEM field, and make a difference in the community. Kaashvi, a fellow ambassador and member of the YouTube team, stated a similar wish to help the community and to learn about the inside of a business. Kessa, a member of the Digital Graphics team, articulated the use of art to create sellable products for STEM⋅E and the valuable skills obtained.

Recently, the Marketing Team has been working on a myriad of different volunteer initiatives. Shweta described the TikTok team’s current project, which is gauging the interests of teens who use the app in order to spread awareness of opportunities in the STEM field. Meanwhile, Isha has been working on beginning a Math Olympiad/Science Experimentation club at school. Kaashvi discussed the YouTube team’s latest initiative: “We’re working on recording more interviews with professionals and also starting more media aspects of STEM⋅E in order to get our name out there.” In another promotional initiative, Kessa has been working on using digital graphics to create products for the STEM⋅E store. Each of these four interns have their own unique impact. Even beyond the marketing team, STEM⋅E has a wide range of ways to take action in STEM.

The STEM⋅E volunteers are all working on different projects, but with each, the same goal rings true: Making a difference in their community and learning skills along the way to increase their impact. Shweta, Isha, Kaashvi, and Kessa all shared their enjoyment of working on their initiatives, along with the value they learned on the importance of communication and working in a team. When asking Isha about her involvement with STEM⋅E, “A few minds are better than one." Each intern agreed that their team has been essential in making a difference. Being involved with STEM⋅E has allowed the interns to experience new ideas as they work towards positive change in a unique way.
