Annual Pickleball Festival Aims to Raise Funds for Local STEM & Sports Youth Education
HOUSTON, Texas – January 14, 2024 – The STEM·E Youth Career Development Program is partnering with the Greater Houston Pickleball Association and Houston Parks & Recreation to host the Inaugural event of the Annual Pickleball Festival + Tournament on April 13, 2024 at the Memorial Park Tennis Center. This family event is geared towards raising funds to support local STEM & Sports Youth education programs.
“STEM·E was founded 5 years ago, and since then, our impact has grown rapidly, even through the pandemic, providing students with career development opportunities not often afforded to underprivileged, under-represented students and communities,” says Andria Balogh, Executive Director of STEM·E.
The annual festival will include a pickleball tournament and numerous fun, family-friendly activities, including a bouncy house, corn hole toss, face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, and amazing raffles. Booths will be present to provide information about community programs, with opportunities to sign up and participate.
The event is expected to garner over 500 attendees, with almost 100 pickleball players, where all proceeds will support youth STEM and sports education programs around the greater Houston area. “By participating in this event, you are supporting STEM·E’s upcoming annual programming in career development, critical-thinking, and professional skill development, through our uniquely integrated STEM and entrepreneurship education,” says Balogh. “Our professional opportunities and events Close the Education Gap by providing valuable hands-on education and experience in critical career-success skills. Our goal is to impassion & motivate students to develop the next generation of leaders!”

About the Houston Parks & Recreation Youth Program
Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) is happy to partner with the STEM·E Youth Career Development Program and the Greater Houston Pickleball Association. A portion of event proceeds will support HPARD’s youth sports programs specifically to pilot a youth pickleball program. HPARD has added 47 pickleball courts at our neighborhood tennis courts around the city, and the number is continuing to grow. HPARD is also in the planning stages for a pickleball facility. We are looking to develop youth opportunities in and around the city for pickleball.
